Don’t forget your travel pack
This week my lovely client returned from an adventure to the Grand Canyon. She had prepared well, taking just enough gear for her wilderness challenge. She packed her Kathmandu must haves, a flagon of Red and most important of all her Kerastase hair care products.
You can rough it any old time, but you should never let your luxurious locks have a panic attack. Unfortunately that is exactly what happened. She shared with me the story of a very spiritual experience, but being that The Grand Canyon is reportedly (Wikipedia) between 72 million and two billion years old, its local rivers, rafting rapids, swimming holes and no convenience of soft water in the motel shower all took a toll on her pretty blond hair.
Now since my enthusiastic client is very committed to her hair care regime she seemed to over do it a little. The manufacturer’s recommendations for the Elixir Oil she packed was simply a light spray of the oil which is designed to protect the hair from the minerals in the water and prevent the hair from drying and becoming brittle and lifeless. However upon her return, while I enjoyed some fabulous stories of her “roughing it wilderness holiday” I became aware of a slight problem of “product build up”. She was unable to get a lather with her shampoo. So Doctor “Hair Shampooer” Maggie jumped in and got to work, shampooing three times consecutively to remove the product build up and from there we were able to work with clean and very well protected luscious hair once again.
So, the moral to the story, shampooing with correct product is important. I love the lather and often will recommend leaving the bubbles to burst for about 30 seconds. By allowing the shampoo to remain on the hair for a little while it really begins to soften the hair so that once you add the conditioner your hair can really absorb the product. Also, the residue from product build up can hinder the ability to colour and style, so shampooing is extremely important.
Lastly, sulphates are not the only way to get lather. Kerastase has a number of Sulphate Free and Silicone Free Shampoo’s so for those who live in an environmentally sensitive area such as the Currumbin Eco Village here on the Southern end of the Gold Coast. So call in and check out the Aura Botanica Range.
